At Mansfield Building Society, we’re committed to offering a personal service to savers, however you choose to transact with us, whether it’s online, by post or at any of our branches.

If you’re considering opening one of our personal savings accounts, then we’ve outlined below some simple steps so that you know what to do. Our colleagues are more than happy to help, so please feel free to give us a call on 01623 676350, pop into any of our branches or enquire from our website.

Step 1: Choosing your product

If you haven’t already chosen the savings product for you, please feel free to browse our range of savings products online or download our Current Interest Rate Summary Leaflet. If you need any help deciding, our branch colleagues can help.

Please note that all products are subject to availability and may be withdrawn at any time. The best way to secure a product is to complete the application as soon as possible. Where the product you have selected is no longer available, we will contact you to discuss alternatives.

Step 2: Important things to know about dealing with us

As well as the product terms, here’s some important information that you should know about before you open your account with us.

  • Your savings with us are covered under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to the value of £120,000. You can find out more from the FSCS Information Sheet.
  • In addition to the product terms, we have General Account Terms and Conditions that apply when you save with us. These conditions take in a wide range of scenarios other than just transacting on your account.
  • We also have a Tariff of Charges leaflet to make it transparent and easy for all Members to know when charges apply and how much they cost.

Step 3: Submitting your application

On each savings product there is an editable application form to download or a link out to our savings portal (for accounts that can be opened online).

If you are applying through the post or to one of our branches, please send us the completed application form together with a cheque for the opening deposit. Please make the cheque payable to Mansfield Building Society, followed by your name (e.g. Mansfield Building Society – A B Smith). We can accept cash deposits by branch only. Our address for postal applications:

Mansfield Building Society
Regent House
Regent Street
Mansfield
Notts NG18 1SS

If you are opening an ISA and want to transfer money from another provider, please complete our ISA Transfer Form.

Making the payment electronically

We can accept payments by debit card at any of our branches (maximum of £5,000 for non-ISA accounts and £20,000 for ISA accounts). You can also pay into your account from your Bank or another Building Society by Standing Order or CHAPS using the details below:

Account Name: This is your name, or the name of the person or business you are trying to pay
Sort Code: 20-55-70 (Barclays Bank Plc)
Account Number: 10613185
Reference: Your 8-digit Mansfield Building Society Account Number

If you send us an application form without a cheque payment, we will contact you with your account number. Once you have made the payment electronically, we will send you a welcome pack and passbook confirming the deposit amount.

ID Requirements

Wherever possible, we’ll try to satisfy our ID verification requirements electronically, meaning that your account can be opened quickly. If we can’t verify your ID electronically, we’ll need to ask you for two forms of physical ID – one as proof of person and the other as proof of address.

For full details of the types of ID we accept, please see our You and Your Savings Account Leaflet.

What happens next?

Once we’ve received your application and we’ve satisfied our ID requirements, your account will be opened. We will send you a welcome pack which will include your passbook for operating the account and return any ID you’ve provided.

Opening a savings account - FAQs

Show FAQ - How long does it take to open my savings account?

We aim to process your application within 3 working days of receiving it.

If you’re opening your new account with a cheque, it can take up to 7 working days for the cheque to clear in the account. You will accrue interest from the day it is credited to your account.

Show FAQ - What about opening an ISA with a transfer from my existing provider?

If you want to open an ISA and transfer money from another ISA provider, you will need to complete an ISA Transfer Form and send it to us with the application. We will then ask for the funds to be transferred to us on your behalf.

Under HMRC guidelines, we have 15 days from when we receive your request to complete this transfer.

The funds from the ISA transfer will be credited to your account from the day they left your existing provider, so there will be no loss of interest.

Once the account is funded with the ISA transfer, we will send you a passbook and a welcome pack.

Show FAQ - What happens if I change my mind about my account?

If you change your mind about your choice of account, you may cancel it within 14 days of the day the account is opened or the day on which you receive the terms and conditions of the account and other information on paper or electronically, whichever is later.

Show FAQ - How do I complain if I'm not happy with the service I receive?

We always aim to give the best possible service, however if you’re not satisfied, our complaints procedure is freely available on our website or from any of our branches.
