The Society has reaffirmed its commitment to the local community by donating £985 to the Sherwood Forest Trust, continuing a long‑standing partnership rooted in protecting and restoring Nottinghamshire’s iconic woodlands.

The donation is the result of opening 197 children’s savings accounts 2025, with the Society pledging £5 for every new children’ws account. Each £5 contribution covers the cost of planting a tree, meaning hundreds of new saplings will take root across Sherwood Forest thanks to local families choosing to save with the Society.

This initiative is part of our broader mission to support the community it serves. The Society has worked closely with Sherwood Forest Trust for many years, recognising the charity’s vital role in preserving the natural heritage of the region.

In 2025, we invited all children’s account holders and their families to a special member event where they could plant their own tree – an experience that proved so popular that the Society has already committed to hosting the event again in 2026.

Sian Harris, Environmental Lead , said: “Supporting Sherwood Forest Trust is about more than planting trees – it’s about investing in the future of our community. Seeing families come together to plant their own saplings last year was incredibly inspiring, and we’re delighted to continue this tradition in 2026.”

2025’s contribution will help the Sherwood Forest Trust continue its essential work restoring habitats, increasing biodiversity, and ensuring that future generations can enjoy the beauty and history of Sherwood Forest.
